Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals SC-900 Exam Review

This certification falls under Microsoft’s Fundamental level certification pathway in the security category, the sc-900 provides individuals getting started in IT Security with a bassline understanding of Microsoft security knowledge across security compliance and identity comparable certification to this exam would be the CC Certified in Cybersecurity by ISC2 and the CompTIA ITF+.

The exam covers a wide range of topics related to security, inclusive of describing security concepts, identity concepts, access management and describing security preventative measures which is something you would learn when delving into the basics of security.

If you’re preparing for this exam, you’re going to want to utilize multiple resources. Microsoft offers multiple aids in this department, they offer the SC-900 learn certification pathway, Study Guides and Practice exams, alongside being able to enroll in instructor led training although I don’t believe this would be necessary for most people.

If you’re on route to taking this certification, be sure to check out the Microsoft certification page to keep up to date with this exam, this exam was last updated on the 23RD of January 2024 so there are items in it that have changed sense I last completed it. The skills measured for this exam can be found on the exam page but in short, your skills are measured over the following.

My Overall Experience in this Exam

My overall experience based on the examination result I received after taking this exam overall I scored a solid 850 in this exam meaning I was on the higher stack of allot of individuals taking this certification, Microsoft exams are normally scored out of 1000 , this leads me to believe this certification would very achievable for all engineers studying the basics in security with some persistent practice and general it knowledge limited effort should be required to gain a decent score in this certification.

My two highest scoring areas were

  • Describe the Concepts of Security, Compliance, and Identity (10-15%)
  • Describe the Capabilities of Microsoft Identity and Access Management Solutions (30-35%)

My two lower scoring areas were

  • Describe the Capabilities of Microsoft Security Solutions (30-35%)
  • Describe the Capabilities of Microsoft Compliance Solutions (25-30%)

This led me to believe that the exam I received was evenly distributed across the four sections and that each section was quite easy to follow and understand even if you were just beginning to learn the fundamentals of security. One thing I would say is as an IT professional beginning your career you shouldn’t rush learning this certification as this gives the building blocks for further associate level certifications so you should take your time when studying for this.
